Find My Phone: How to Find a Lost Phone

What is the worst possible thing that could happen to you? Losing your phone, right? Well, we aren’t being overly dramatic; your phone is certainly an important part of you. It isn’t just the phone that’s important; it’s what it contains that matters.

We save our personal information on our phones, which could range from credit card information to passwords and usernames. To say that your phone is an integral part of your identity is certainly an understatement. Losing your phone is not just a monetary loss.  It could also put you at risk. If your phone ends up in the wrong hands, you might be in for some trouble.

The worst part is, we think it’ll never happen to us. Most of are at a loss when we actually lose our phones and have no idea what to do next. The first step should be to try to get your phone back. Buying a new phone is a hassle, and most importantly, your personal information is still out there. For starters, be sure to call your number and see if someone picks it up. If it’s an honest person, then luck’s on your side.

But a situation might arise where you might get stuck asking yourself, “How do I find my phone?” Well, that depends on which type of phone you have.

How do I find my Android phone?

If you have lost your Android phone, there are two ways of tracking the location of the phone. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. If your phone hasn’t been switched off and is still within the range of a wireless signal, it can be tracked using the device manager. If your phone has been turned off, the device manager would show the last location of the phone that was registered.

When you log in to your Google account from another device, go to device manager, where you can access the settings option and visit account history. It will show you the places you visit and use Google Maps to track the exact location of your phone. Apart from that, to protect you from data theft, it offers a number of useful options including remotely wiping and locking your phone.

How do I find my Blackberry phone?

Blackberry phones aren’t all that easy to track, unlike Android phones since they don’t come with built-in trackers. However, don’t worry. You can always download third party apps that would instantly send you a message with your phone’s location. Most aren’t free but do offer great features.

How do I find my iPhone?

To track the exact location of your iPhone, you would need the app “Find my iPhone”, which is readily available on the App Store. This is the only app that can come to your rescue in case you’ve lost your phone. However, there is one tiny issue: the app won’t work unless your phone is switched on and has a strong internet connection.

If your phone is lost, you will have to log in to your iCloud account from another device. You will be able to access the app from there. Once you do, the app would show you the location of your phone. It keeps recording the location of your phone and is more or less accurate. Like the android device manager, this app also allows you to remotely wipe your phone, lock your phone and clear it. That way, less damage is done.

How do I track my Windows phone?

In the case of Windows phones, all phones with Windows 8.1 and above consist of a tracking app that is built-in. If you lost your phone, you would just need to visit your Microsoft account from any device that’s handy. You would be shown all the Microsoft devices that you own and can select the one you’ve lost. After that, you would be shown the precise location of the phone which has been stolen or is lost. With the help of this app, you would be able to clear the data of your phone and even lock it, to prevent hacking and other security threats.

Well, there you go. If God forbid, you should lose your phone, you’ll know exactly what to do. Furthermore, it is the information that it contains which must be protected. If you’re unable to get your phone back, you can at least lock it or clear the data that was on there!
