Smart Ways To Find Your Phone If It’s Lost
What is the worst possible thing that could happen to you? Losing your phone, right? Well, we aren’t being overtly dramatic; your phone is certainly an important part of you. It isn’t just the phone that’s important, it’s what it contains that matters.
We save our personal information on our phones, which could range from credit card information to passwords to usernames and so on. To say that your phone is an integral part of your identity is certainly an understatement, and losing your phone is not just a loss but could also put you at risk. If your phone ends up in the wrong hands, you might be in for some trouble.
The worst part is, we think it’ll never happen to us. Most of are at a loss when we actually lose our phones and have no idea as to what our next step should be. The first step should be to try to get your phone back. Buying a new phone is a hassle, and most importantly, your personal information is still out there. Be sure to call your number and see if someone picks it up. If it’s an honest person on the other side, luck’s on your side.
But a situation might arise where you might have to track down your phone. Here’s how you can go about it.
Tracking an Android phone
If you have lost your Android phone, there are two ways of tracking the location of the phone. You already have a Google account, in that case, which can be accessed without the phone. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. If your phone hasn’t been switched off and if it is still within the range of a wireless signal, it can be tracked using the device manager. If your phone has been turned off, the device manager would show the last location of the phone that was registered.
When you log in to your Google account from another device, you need to go to device manager. You would have to go to the settings option and then visit account history. This would give you the chance to see the places you visit. You would be able to track the exact location of your phone. Google maps would show you the precise location of your Android phone and you can track it down. Apart from that, you would also be able to remotely remove all data from your phone, clear it, and lock it and other functions that could help you get back your phone.
Tracking a Blackberry phone
Blackberry phones aren’t all that easy to track, unlike Android phones since they don’t come with in-built trackers. However, don’t worry. You can always download certain apps that can help you track your phone if you lose it. Most of these apps aren’t free and would instantly send you a message with your phone’s location in case it’s lost or stolen.
Tracking an iPhone
To track the exact location of your iPhone, you would need the app called “Find my iPhone” which is readily available on the app store. This is the only app that can come to your rescue in case you’ve lost your phone. However, there is one tiny issue: the app won’t work unless your phone is switched on and has a strong internet connection.
If your phone is lost, you will have to log in to your iCloud account from another device. You will be able to access the app from there. Once you do, the app would show you the location of your phone. It keeps recording the location of your phone and is more or less accurate. Like the android device manager, this app also allows you to remotely get rid of any data that could land you in trouble, lock your phone and clear it. That way, damage done is far less.
Tracking a Windows phone
In the case of Windows phones, all phones with OS Windows 8.1 and above consist of a tracking app that is built-in. If you lost your phone, you would just need to visit your Microsoft account from any device that’s handy. You would be shown all the Microsoft devices that you own and you can select the one you’ve lost. After that, you would be shown the precise location of the phone which has been stolen or is lost. With the help of this app, you would be able to clear the data of your phone and even lock it, to prevent hacking and other security threats.
Well, there you go. God forbid, if you should lose your phone, you’ll know exactly what to do. Even more than the phone, it is the information that it contains which must be preserved. If you’re unable to get your phone back, you can at least lock it or clear the data that was on there!
